I've had a stomach bug for the last day or so, so I haven't felt like doing much of anything... much less bust out the odorless (full of odor) mineral spirits. Yet earlier I opened the windows and Phthalo Blue and a sketch and underpainting happened.
Karl Umlauf once told me, "I wish you painted more like you draw," and then proceeded to give me a B.
Thanks, Karl, I'm still working on that.

I think maybe he meant...don't let the color destroy your draftsman-like predisposition.
Color can really mess up a painting...ask Thomas Kincade because he knows. I just ordered his new scented night-light. It's for the room where the sun doesn't shine.
You should read "CHROMOPHOBIA" by David Batchelor. You'd love it..I think?!
This is what I am talking about...
Karl, sweet Karl. "This is all D work, I don't know what else to tell you." That is my Karl quote. I think you got off easy.
Keep it up!
Of course I am just blown away that someone can look at a blank canvas, imagine something else, and then make it happen! I think it is lovely...if the kitties don't want it then let me know!
Hope you are feeling better!
Karl! Did he come back 15 minutes later and say "why are you painting like you draw? that just isn't working for you." but i think he said it best when he walked by one day and said "wow, your not THAT good. try something else...or stick with clay."
I think I just started a Karl Umlauf support group.
